Our story ...

A place with history

Hospitality over many generations

Where “der bircher” stands today, a medieval tower once towered in the 12th century, built by the Lords of Trens. The tower then had to give way to a manor house, called Eppurg, which was mentioned in official documents for the first time in 1449. The imposing stone walls, old vaults and wooden ceiling still attest to the builders’ wealth today. The Eppurg was managed as an inn from 1829 and has been owned by the Mayr family since 1925.

Our story ...

Welcome to our unique “der bircher” residence

We, your hosts, would like to introduce you to us and the new “der bircher”. Judith, the daughter of a family in hospitality, and Florian, the son of a baker’s family, we decided at a young age to take over our family businesses. We have been together for more than 28 years and have now decided to merge our two businesses and work according to this new concept. We have had the idea of building a residence in a class of its own with 16 apartments near Vipiteno/Sterzing out of the three-star hotel in need of renovation for five years now. Our greatest wish was to create something new in our area. “der bircher” offers our guests a new, exclusive ambience over three floors.

Here in the pilgrimage site of Maria Trens, we also built the “moidls lokäischn”, where our eldest daughter Anna manages our shop and daytime café in an exclusive setting.

Our story ...

2017 – the year of major change

So much tradition must be well preserved. And yet we want our family business to head to new shores. Contemporary accommodation, relaxation and well-being as well as quality-conscious, typical regional catering, that’s how we imagine a holiday with us at “der bircher”. By the way, the name “der bircher” comes from the word birch, which is why birch wood plays an important part in the redesign.

We, the Mayr-Walcher family, are the third generation to manage the hotel and are looking towards the future with a great deal of enthusiasm and humanity. We are already looking forward to welcoming you to our new “der bircher”!
